Wrong fuel is not just a car problem. Tractors, excavators, skid steers, generators, and other heavy machinery get misfuelled regularly, and the consequences are often worse because the fuel systems are built to tighter tolerances and the repair bills are significantly higher. If you work in farming, mining, or construction across the Hunter Valley or…
Old mechanical diesels tolerated small amounts of petrol because their injection systems ran at low pressure with loose tolerances. Modern common rail diesels do not, because petrol strips the lubrication their high pressure pumps and injectors depend on. Any misfuel in a modern diesel needs a full drain before startup. There is a conversation I…
If you have put the wrong fuel in one tank of a dual tank 4WD, leave the engine off and do not run the transfer pump or switch tanks. Keeping the contamination isolated in one tank is what makes the fix quick, and a mobile drain can empty that tank wherever you are. Dual tanks…
If you put the wrong fuel in your boat, do not start the motor, and do not try to siphon it out at the ramp. Petrol boat and diesel boat engines both need the tank drained properly before they run again, and a mobile fuel drain comes to the ramp, marina or driveway. Here is…
In a vehicle tank, fuel begins to go bad after three months or so. The lighter compounds evaporate. E10 blends can absorb moisture and separate. Oxidation forms gums and varnish. Diesel has a longer life but it has its own problems. A car that has been standing long enough may need its fuel drained, not…
If you put the wrong fuel in a diesel ute, do not start the engine. Modern Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, Triton and Navara utes run common rail fuel systems that petrol damages quickly. Leave the ignition off and call a mobile fuel drain specialist, and most utes are recovered on the spot. Diesel utes are the…
Diesel bug is microbial growth, bacteria and fungi that live in your fuel tank at the interface of water and diesel. This was the right fuel, not the misfuelling. The contamination built up in the tank over weeks or months, migrating and clogging filters and fuel lines with dark sludge. Diesel Bug and How It…
There is one risk of wrong fuel in a hybrid car that does not exist for regular cars. A hybrid can start its petrol engine on its own, without the driver having to turn a key. That means the advice of don’t start the engine becomes power the vehicle off completely and leave it off….
Long weekends see a spike in wrong fuel incidents around Newcastle when pressure to fill up unfamiliar hire cars, borrowed utes and holiday vehicles takes its toll. If you put the wrong fuel in, do not start the engine and call a 24/7 mobile fuel drain service; most vehicles are recovered roadside within the hour….
If you’ve put the wrong fuel in your caravan towed vehicle, motorhome or campervan, do not start the engine and call a mobile fuel drain specialist. Roadside draining beats towing in almost every case, as larger tanks, heavier vehicles and holiday timing make misfuels harder to recover from. Misfuelling a hatchback on the way to…
